20 Mar 12:00  League vs Saffron Walden 3
Venue: Away - Newport Sch
Score: 5 - 2
Scorers: Matt (Mops) Lockwood (2) Ian Anderson (2) Jon D'Arcy (1)

Brentwood travelled to Saffron Walden for their last league game of the season, knowing that one point would be enough for them to be crowned Champions!!!

Brentwood started the game well, getting their slick passing game going from the off and soon found themselves camped in the Walden half. As the pressure mounted, Brentwood started to create some clear scoring opportunities, only to be foiled by the excellent Walden keeper.

With Brentwood's midfield of Wallbank, Anderson, Hansen and Wright J now in full control of proceedings and the forwards of Lockwood and D'Arcy making a real menace of themselves it was never going to be too long before the Walden goal was breached.

Sure enough mid way through the half, the hard working, Matt 'Mops' Lockwood chased down what looked to be a lost cause, knicking the ball passed the stranded keeper and slotting home for an excellent solo effort. (1-0)

Brentwood continued to play some flowing hockey but Walden's young team began to get into their stride and ask the table topper's defence a question of two. Against the run of play, a young Walden midfielder ran at the Brentwood defence at pace and found himself free to score (1-1).

Following this set back, Brentwood continued to control the game and it wasn't long before they took the lead again. This time top scorer, Jon D'Arcy, converted a short corner when his shot found the corner of the goal. (2-1). This scoreline was held until half time.

The second half continued in much the same way as the first, with Brentwood in full control and playing some superb hockey. As the Walden players grew frustrated with their inability to construct any meaningful pressure, Brentwood started to win a succession of short corners which resulted in the score line being taken away from them. Ian Anderson scored twice and Matt 'Mops' Lockwood notched his second of the game as Brentwood's class shone through. (5-1).

With the game won, Brentwood took their foot off the gas and began to enjoy the day, knowing the league crown awaited them. During this period, Walden were awarded a penatly flick following a scramble in the D. This was converted (5-2) and this held until the final whistle.

The Men's 3s have enjoyed a wonderful season which has been richly enjoyed by all those involved. I would like to thank everyone for all of their efforts, commitment to the cause and the true camaraderie and team spirit that has been the winning formula for the 'Mighty 3s'
