Score: 4 - 3
Scorers: Nick Bryan (2) Charles Morgan (2)
Wapping, already champions by a country mile, fully appreciated the significance of the game to Brentwood and honourably brought a strong side which gave us a significant challenge to overcome in order to guarantee a merited 3rd place (ahead of Chelmsford) given our performances throughout the season.
The morning start clearly had more effect on them however and they could consider themselves lucky to go off at half time only 1 down. A short corner strike by Stephen Brown was followed up by Nick Bryan and neatly finished by Charles Morgan.
Wapping sensed the opportunity early in the 2nd half and equalised with an accurate reverse stick strike. A further strike slipped under the keeper to make it 1-2. Nick Bryan equalised skillfully to make it 2-2. Wapping could then consider themselves lucky to go 2-3 up as it had more to do with the weather than the quality of their play, the keeper losing his footing at the vital moment.
This did not deter Brentwood. Tim Gingell's introduction was timely. We equalised through a fine team move culminating in a precisely placed reverse stick strike from Nick Bryan and Charles Morgan scored what turned out to be the winner from a tight angle when pressure was applied on the keeper by Stephen Brown.
Fine performances all round. Credit to Rob Logan who was often outnumbered in central midfield given Wapping's 4-4-2 and sometimes 4-5-1 setup. Great wing play by Charles Morgan and Nick Bryan. The Man of the Match however must go to Simon McCann whose timing and positioning in the centre of defence was immaculate considering his time away from the game.
Well done to all those experienced regulars who made it a successful and enjoyable season. Thanks to Paxo and Nigel for consistently finding the full 11, no mean feat at this level.
