Next Season
The 2008 – 2009 season was completed, with our last league games being played, last Saturday, April 4th, followed in the evening by another successful annual Hockey Club Ball.
We have had a good number of successes this season with three teams gaining promotion, two as Champions, and all other teams finishing in higher league positions this season than those achieved last, well done to all.
Over the last few weeks we have all enjoyed these successes, it’s been great. In order to best ensure a repeat of these successes our thoughts now move quickly to 2009 – 2010 and the first major event in our preparations for next season is the AGM, to be held on 20th May.
It is at the AGM that we elect the Officers and Team Captains for the coming season. The Main Club Committee comprises 12 positions as noted below:-

- Club President
- Club Chairperson
- Treasuer
- Secretary
- Ladies Club Captain
- Mens Club Captain
- Youth Chairperson
- Coaching Chairperson
- Facilities Secretary
- Commercial Secretary
- Ladies Club Representative
- Mens Club Representative
Other Elected positions are:-
- Ladies Fixture Secretary
- Mens Fixture Secretary
- Ladies Umpire Liaison Officer
- Mens Umpire Liaison Officer
- Social Secretary and Sub Committee
- Ladies, Mens and Mixed Team Captains
Our Club constitution rules that all of the above are to be formally elected, annually, at AGM. This requires a willing volunteer to be proposed by a Club member and seconded by another and then voted in by majority vote at the AGM.
Nominations can be submitted to the Secretary in writing [email is fine] prior to the AGM or nominated in person at the meeting. It is vital that all Club members participate in this process and do not meekly take a back seat, this is the time where we set the tone for the forthcoming season.
In particular you should be aware that there are three known vacancies on the Main Committee that require volunteers for the coming season:
Ladies and Mens Club Captains: Brief Job Role – (1) Chair the Selection Committee (2) Regularly attend and report to the Main Committe Meetings on playing matters (3) Organising Pre-Season Trials (4) Provide regular, written repports for inclusion in the Club Martyr publication (5) Act as independent ‘go to’ person for player issues and (6) Administer Player Registration Lists
[Ladies only] Facilities Secretary: Brief Job Role – (1) Administering Pitch Bookings for Matches and Training at all locations. (2) Liasing with Facility supplers, monitoring costs, maintaining relationships and dealing with service issues.
All voluntary work takes personal time and effort and we all have varying amounts of this available to us but remember we are an amateur club, run by the members for the benefit of the members, we all should find time to help the Club, your Club.
The above positions are critical to the future efficient running of the Club. Your careful consideration of these roles would be greatly valued, if you think you could do one of them or know of a possible nomination please come forward and speak to me or any member of the current committee for advice and direction.
By definition, all elected positions become vacant each season, so there are ample opportuntities for you to contribute, so please consider where you could help out. I welcome any and all nominations for any of the above positions.
eg. who do you want as your captain and vice captain next year? could you do it? Do you feel you could contribute in any other way, perhaps on the main committee? Talk to your team mates and club friends, lobby suitable candidates, influence the outcome. Apathy is not an option here as those who follow this course generally get what they deserve…...
