Despite the hugely difficult weather which has not made training easy in last weeks we are battling on there are some important dates for the diary below.
1. Next week we have an Alliance league fixture with Upminster and Southend Thurrock.
This game will be at Coopers Coburn School Astroturf, just 20 mins drive away. For those unfamiliar with the venue the address is below
St Mary’s Lane
Upminster
Essex
RM14 3HS
Normal format U9 first game to start at 10.00, U11 start at 11.00 and U13 at 12.10. Please arrive pitch side 20 mins early.
2. Essex clubs competition, this is a tournament organised by Essex Hockey association for clubs in Essex then progresses to a regional round.
a) U10 mixed team 21st March at Redbridge
b) U12 boys team 28th March at Redbridge
These age groups are based on calendar year groups ( not school years eg 1st Jan on not 1st September on – a bit confusing) and so U10 is for all born in 2000 or younger.
U12 is for those born in 1998 or younger.
Details a bit sparse but please plan for these dates.
3. No training on 21st March as it is the Brentwood half marathon starting in Sawyers Hall Lane and access is tricky. However U10’s will be in action at Redbridge.

Dear All
The drain disasters continue at Sawyers Hall and so the pitch is still contaminated and out of bounds for a second weekend.
Rather than let everyone get out of the habit entirely and have lie ins for two weeks on the trot we have hired the pitch at Brentwood school from 10.00-12.00.
So for this week only move training from Sawyers Hall to Brentwood school astro turf in Middleton Hall lane.
Spread the word in case I have missed anyone!
Hope to see you Sunday, might be worth packing waterproofs if the weather does not improve!

Alliance Sports Mini Hockey League
First fixture November 1st Brentwood vs Witham & Havering
First fixture of the year is on 1st November at Brentwood Sawyers Hall Astroturf for those new to this sort of thing we play 7 a side on half a pitch U9’s mixed and U11’s girls and boys 10 mins each way and U13’s girls and boys 15 mins each way. We will play in red we have spare shirts if needed.
U9’s will start at 10.00 please be on pitch ready to play 09.45
U11’s will start at 11.12 please be on pitch ready to play 10.55
U13’s will start at 12.24 and finish about 14.00 hrs please be on pitch ready to play 12.10 latest.
This is the first game of the season everyone will play if they have trained, the age groups are U9 up to and including year 4, U11 up to and including year 6 and U13 up to and including year 8. It is always tricky to get the right numbers of players in each age group and so we may need to play some players in two age groups eg U9 and U11 or U11 and U13.
As always any help setting up the pitches or on the BBQ or umpiring much appreciated.
Any problems Jeff 0771 445 2390,
6th September 2009
Welcome to the start of the new season. For many, me included, it hardly seems like five minutes ago that we finished last season but here we are again at the start of a new season. So dust off the hockey kit and get into gear for a brand new season.
Everything in life has a beginning and whether you end up being an Olympian or social hockey player or even just play hockey for a short time we are pleased to be involved at the start of your hockey journey which will for some of you be a life long association.
The aims of the junior section are simple, above all else we want you to ENJOY your hockey and have FUN in a controlled and safe environment. We want to CHALLENGE you so that your skills improve from whatever level you are starting from. If you enjoy your training and matches and are challenged with new skills then we hope that we can all ACHIEVE further success.
So if you are returning to Brentwood Hockey Club or starting for the first time or even restarting welcome come on down on a Sunday morning and try out a challenging game that is faster than football, has the integrity and discipline of rugby and certainly not for just for girls!
Mini training for all of those including and up to year 8 starts on Sunday 6th September at Sawyers Hall Astroturf from 10.00 – 12.00 as normal and will run from September until the final league tournament in May 2010. As normal we will not have training over the Christmas week or Easter weekend.
As always we lose some players to the academy sides in the club as they move up into year 9 and inevitably gain some as hopefully you spread the word to friends, neighbours and other contacts.
There will be roughly monthly games in the Alliance Sports Mini hockey league where we will be able to play local clubs at U9, U11 and U13 which will culminate in the end of season festival in May, an exhausting but satisfying end to the season that again will be at Chelmsford HC this year. As I write this details of fixtures are still to be finalized but the dates of these fixtures are in this welcome pack.
Last season we finished top of the second league in the Alliance sports Mini league a great achievement and performed strongly in the U11 and U13 tournaments organized by Essex county this year we need to build on that success as our confidence and numbers grow further.
There were other individual successes from those who made it into the county development squads a record number of players from Brentwood succeeded last year as we continue to make our presence felt at a county level for both girls and boys.
This year there are some changes to the county set up and hopefully we can help you negotiate your way through them as there are different squads at different age groups and different competitions being organized.
One of our main targets as a club this year is to get our Clubs First accreditation renewed as our old accreditation has come up for renewal.
If you want to get involved in the admin or running a team or coaching – just let me know. If you are confused or worried or have a burning question do not be afraid to ask.
Yours in hockey.
